Helpful details

Compress a file to the size limit you actually need.

Fitabyte is a free exact-size file compressor for images, PDFs, videos, and audio. Enter a maximum size in KB, MB, or GB and the browser searches for settings that fit below your limit while protecting as much useful quality as possible.

Because processing happens on your device, there is no upload queue and Fitabyte does not store your personal files. Results depend on the original content and browser capabilities, but your source file always remains unchanged.

Common uses

Questions answered

Frequently asked questions

Can Fitabyte compress a file to an exact size?

Fitabyte aims to produce a file at or below your chosen maximum. Some formats and source files have practical minimums, so an extremely low target may require a visible quality reduction.

Will compression reduce quality?

Reducing file size can reduce visual or audio quality. Fitabyte searches for a smaller result and reports its measured size. It can miss a target, and a smaller file can lose useful detail.

Are my files uploaded to Fitabyte?

No. Compression runs inside your browser, and Fitabyte does not store the files you select or the results you create.

Why can a large video take longer?

Video compression is intensive and uses your device processor and memory. Large or long videos may take longer, especially on phones or older computers.

Does PDF compression preserve every feature?

When compression is needed, PDF pages are rendered as images. Selectable text, links, forms and digital signatures are not preserved. Use a different workflow if those features are required.
