  3. 03

Listen to the output and check its size before importing or sharing it.

Good to know

MP3 is widely supported. WAV is generally larger and useful for editing. Converting a lossy source to WAV does not restore details lost in earlier compression.

Convert audio to MP3, WAV, M4A or OGG

MP3 exports at 192 kbps, M4A uses AAC at 192 kbps, OGG uses Vorbis quality level 5 and WAV uses 16-bit PCM. These encoding choices are fixed; this page has no manual bitrate, sample-rate or channel-count control. Supported input categories include MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, FLAC and AAC, subject to codec compatibility.

Converting a compressed recording to WAV can make it much larger without recovering detail lost earlier. Re-encoding MP3, AAC or other lossy sources can introduce further changes. Start from the best source you have and select the format for compatibility rather than assuming a larger output means better sound.

A few things you might ask.

Can I create a lossless original by converting MP3 to WAV?

No. WAV avoids another lossy output encoding, but it cannot restore information already discarded by the MP3. Keep a lossless source when one is available.

Can I choose a 128 kbps MP3?

This converter's MP3 output is fixed at 192 kbps. Compress audio provides a size target but produces M4A when compression is needed, so check the destination's accepted formats.

Which source files can I try?

The file picker accepts MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, FLAC and AAC. Sources above 250 MB are rejected. The container extension alone does not guarantee that its codec can be decoded; use a shorter recording or another source export if processing fails.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

This tool processes files on your device. Moving a file between Fitabyte tools uses a one-use browser handoff that expires after 10 minutes; abandoned handoffs are cleared on your next visit. Your original stays unchanged.

Can I use this tool on my phone?

Use a current browser and keep the tab open during processing. Available memory and processing speed depend on your device; start with a smaller file for large PDFs or video.
