A LITTLE GUIDANCE

Three steps. One less task.

  1. 01

Add the audio and choose a volume between 0% and 200%.

  2. 02

Export the adjusted recording as MP3.

  3. 03

Listen at a comfortable device volume, checking loud peaks for distortion.

Good to know

Too much gain can cause clipping and distortion. Start with a small increase. This adjusts volume, not background noise: unwanted sound gets louder along with the recording.

Raise or lower the volume of a complete recording

The slider applies the same gain to the whole recording. At 100% the gain is unchanged, 0% makes it silent and 200% doubles the signal amplitude. The result is encoded as MP3 at 192 kbps, including when you leave the volume at 100%.

Raising gain also raises background sound and can cause clipping on loud peaks. This is not automatic loudness normalization, voice leveling, noise reduction or clipping repair. Start with a modest increase for quiet speech, listen through the loudest moments and reduce it if the export sounds harsh or distorted.

A few things you might ask.

Will 200% sound exactly twice as loud?

The setting doubles signal amplitude, not perceived loudness. What you hear depends on the recording and playback device, and loud peaks may distort before the whole track seems louder.

Can it make quiet speech louder without increasing background noise?

No. The gain is applied to the entire sound mix. It does not identify voices or separate them from noise and music.

Which source files can I try?

The file picker accepts MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, FLAC and AAC. Sources above 250 MB are rejected. The container extension alone does not guarantee that its codec can be decoded; use a shorter recording or another source export if processing fails.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

This tool processes files on your device. Moving a file between Fitabyte tools uses a one-use browser handoff that expires after 10 minutes; abandoned handoffs are cleared on your next visit. Your original stays unchanged.

Can I use this tool on my phone?

Use a current browser and keep the tab open during processing. Available memory and processing speed depend on your device; start with a smaller file for large PDFs or video.
