A LITTLE GUIDANCE

Three steps. One less task.

  1. 01

Listen to the source and note the beginning and end of the excerpt in seconds.

  2. 02

Enter a valid start and a later end within the recording.

  3. 03

Export the MP3 and listen around both cut points for clipped words or notes.

Good to know

Remove unwanted silence or keep a short excerpt. Listen to both ends of the output to avoid clipping a word. Your original recording remains unchanged.

Cut an audio recording to one selected excerpt

Trim audio keeps one continuous interval and exports it as MP3 at 192 kbps, regardless of the input format. Enter seconds rather than a minutes-and-seconds string: 2 minutes is 120. The selected end must be after the start; check that both times refer to actual audio in your source.

There is no waveform editor, silence detection, fade control or joining of multiple excerpts. The output is re-encoded, not a lossless copy of the original segment. When a precise spoken phrase matters, leave a small listening margin and review the exported beginning and ending before sharing it.

A few things you might ask.

Why did a WAV recording export as MP3?

The trim tool uses MP3 at 192 kbps for its output. Convert audio can change the container afterward, but converting that MP3 to WAV will not restore details lost during MP3 encoding.

Can this automatically remove pauses or background noise?

No. It keeps the single time interval you specify. Automatic pause removal, noise reduction and edits across multiple separate sections are not included.

Which source files can I try?

The file picker accepts MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, FLAC and AAC. Sources above 250 MB are rejected. The container extension alone does not guarantee that its codec can be decoded; use a shorter recording or another source export if processing fails.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

This tool processes files on your device. Moving a file between Fitabyte tools uses a one-use browser handoff that expires after 10 minutes; abandoned handoffs are cleared on your next visit. Your original stays unchanged.

Can I use this tool on my phone?

Use a current browser and keep the tab open during processing. Available memory and processing speed depend on your device; start with a smaller file for large PDFs or video.
