Reduce scanned PDF file size by rebuilding pages as compressed images. Set a target size, then save a smaller copy.

A LITTLE GUIDANCE

Three steps. One less task.

  1. 01

Add the PDF and enter the maximum size in KB, MB or GB.

  2. 02

Compress a copy while keeping the source document.

  3. 03

Check the actual size and every page's small text, stamps and signatures before sharing.

Good to know

This tool rasterizes pages. Selectable text, editable forms, links and digital signatures are not preserved. It is best for scanned documents. Keep the original if these features matter.

Reduce a PDF toward an email or upload size limit

A PDF that already fits the selected target is returned unchanged. Otherwise, Fitabyte renders each page as a JPEG image and builds a new PDF, reducing image resolution and quality over successive attempts. The page dimensions are retained, but selectable text, original links, interactive forms and digital signatures are not preserved.

The target is a maximum to aim for, not an exact output size or a guarantee. A difficult document may remain above it, and an already-efficient text PDF may not benefit from rasterization. Use Extract PDF or Delete PDF pages to remove unneeded content first; choose a larger budget when small print becomes unclear.

A few things you might ask.

Will my compressed PDF still be searchable?

If compression renders the pages, it does not preserve the original text layer or add OCR. Keep the original when searching, copying text, completing forms or checking signatures is required.

Why is a PDF still over the requested size?

The processor stops after a limited number of attempts and returns its smallest candidate. Check the actual downloaded size. Increase the target, remove unnecessary pages or prepare lower-resolution source scans if readability permits.

Does 1 MB mean 1,000,000 bytes here?

Fitabyte uses 1,048,576 bytes per MB and 1,024 bytes per KB. Leave a margin below a portal's stated limit, especially if it uses decimal units.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

This tool processes files on your device. Moving a file between Fitabyte tools uses a one-use browser handoff that expires after 10 minutes; abandoned handoffs are cleared on your next visit. Your original stays unchanged.

Can I use this tool on my phone?

Use a current browser and keep the tab open during processing. Available memory and processing speed depend on your device; start with a smaller file for large PDFs or video.
