Good to know
SRT is common in video editors; WebVTT suits HTML video. Review styling and cue formatting after conversion. This tool converts existing subtitles; it does not transcribe audio.
Convert SRT to WebVTT, or WebVTT back to SRT
SRT uses numbered cues and commas before milliseconds. WebVTT begins with a WEBVTT header and uses decimal points in timestamps. Choose the required output format, convert your existing subtitle file and load the downloaded copy into the intended player to check the timing.
This tool changes the subtitle format; it does not create captions from audio, translate dialogue or repair an existing timing offset. WebVTT STYLE and REGION blocks are rejected when converting to SRT. Cue positioning settings and non-caption blocks are not preserved in the SRT output.
The same two cues in SRT and VTT
Both files contain the same two captions. The first cue still begins at 1.250 seconds and ends at 3.500 seconds. Converting this VTT back to SRT reproduced the sample’s original text and timings.

Hello, world.
2
00:00:04,000 --> 00:00:06,000
A second subtitle.
WebVTT output
WEBVTT

A few things you might ask.
Does renaming .srt to .vtt convert the subtitles?
No. WebVTT needs its header and timestamp syntax. Use the converter to change the file contents as well as the extension, then test the result in your player.
Will the subtitle timings change?
For ordinary text cues, the converter keeps their start and end times while changing the timestamp notation. Converting formats cannot fix subtitles that were already out of sync with the video.
Why did a styled VTT file fail to convert?
SRT cannot represent all WebVTT features. This converter rejects STYLE and REGION blocks rather than silently claiming to preserve them. Keep your original VTT and use a subtitle editor when layout or advanced cue features matter.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
This tool processes files on your device. Moving a file between Fitabyte tools uses a one-use browser handoff that expires after 10 minutes; abandoned handoffs are cleared on your next visit. Your original stays unchanged.
Can I use this tool on my phone?
Use a current browser and keep the tab open during processing. Available memory and processing speed depend on your device; start with a smaller file for large PDFs or video.
