Resize Video Dimensions
Resize a video while preserving its proportions. Scale a clip to a smaller resolution and export it locally.
Let’s resize video.
Add video files to get started.
Three steps. One less task.
- 01
Add the video and choose a width preset or enter a custom width.
- 02
Use a width between 2 and 3,840 pixels; height adjusts automatically.
- 03
Export the MP4 and check its dimensions, legibility and playback.
Good to know
Resizing scales the entire picture without changing its proportions. Use Crop video if you need a different aspect ratio, such as a square or portrait frame.
Resize video width while keeping its proportions
The width is rounded to an even number, and height is calculated proportionally with an even value for encoding. The tool re-encodes an MP4 rather than changing a display-size label. It does not offer an independent height field, a crop or a byte-size target.
Choose a smaller width for a smaller-screen delivery copy when the text and subject remain clear. Upscaling is allowed but cannot restore detail missing from a low-resolution source. If the destination needs a different aspect ratio, use Crop video first, then resize the cropped result.
A few things you might ask.
Why is the width one pixel different from what I entered?
Video encoding uses an even width here. An odd request is rounded to the nearest even value, and the proportional height is also made even.
Will resizing guarantee a file under 10 MB?
No. Pixel dimensions, duration and encoding all affect file size. Use Compress video afterward for a size target, then inspect the final result.
Which source files can I try?
The file picker accepts MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI and M4V. Sources above 250 MB are rejected. Codec compatibility and available browser memory also matter; a recognized extension does not guarantee successful processing.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
This tool processes files on your device. Moving a file between Fitabyte tools uses a one-use browser handoff that expires after 10 minutes; abandoned handoffs are cleared on your next visit. Your original stays unchanged.
Can I use this tool on my phone?
Use a current browser and keep the tab open during processing. Available memory and processing speed depend on your device; start with a smaller file for large PDFs or video.
